Fluepac products from Calgon Carbon Corporation reduces carbon injection rates and improves mercury removal which will help coal based power plants to comply with EPA’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standards

Calgon Carbon Corporation has launched the improved version of the Fluepac products. These products helps in controlling the emissions of mercury in the coal-fired power plants. The new products are named as  Fluepac MC+ Ultra, Fluepac MC Maxx and Fluepac ST. These have superior performance and reduces carbon injection rates and mercury removal requirements. This will help power plants to comply with EPA’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standards.

Will solar radiation measure up to expectations?

The mega plan for solar power generation in India envisaged under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) and various State Solar Policies, calls for reliable & bankable solar radiation data in order to establish plant performance and project economics. The large-scale solar parks coming up in Gujarat and Rajasthan in association with the Clinton Climate Initiative further intensify the pressing need of bankable solar data.

The overall power generation and the Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) of Solar PV plants and Solar Thermal plants depend on Global Horizontal Irradiance[1] (GHI) and Direct Normal Irradiance[2] (DNI) respectively. Thus, it is critical to have reliable data around solar radiation while conceptualizing a solar power project. The reliability of solar resource data also impacts the lender’s assessment of these projects and affects their overall bankability.

In order support and accelerate the development & planning upcoming projects, EVI has established a state-of-the-art Solar Radiation and Meteorological Parameters monitoring station in the upcoming Rajasthan Solar Park in Jodhpur. This station will support the solar power projects by being source of an independent, third party data set. The station has following features:

ü  Installed equipments are in accordance with the guidelines from World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for a reference grade station.

ü  Station is manned to ensure regular cleaning & maintenance thereby ensuring accurate data measurement.

ü  24X7 security by ex-army personnel to ensure station safety and security

ü  Following parameters are being measured at the station:

·       Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI)

·       Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI)

·       Diffuse Horizontal Irradiance[3] (DHI)

·       Ambient Temperature

·       Atmospheric Pressure

·       Relative Humidity

·       Rainfall

·       Wind Speed & Direction

We understand that in Wind Industry at least one year site specific studies are required for generating bankable data-sets. Therefore for Solar it is quite plausible that banks might not accept weather model generated data-sets only and may want ground measured data as well.

Therefore, in addition to undertaking ground measurements, EVI has partnered with US based global weather resouce assessment firm 3TIER to provide the industry with long-term hourly time series data based on combined approach of ground-based and satellite data.

At present , there are various sources of satellite based observation data - some of which are being used without comparision to ground observations to develop solar projects. Recent evidence from ground observations and production from commissioned projects in Rajasthan suggest that GHI estimates from satellite are good but DNI is over-stated. We strongly suggest project developers and financial institutions NOT to get misleaded by satellite data alone for designing solar projects and rather use combination of ground observations along with satellite data for the purpose.

This will allow the commerce department to investigate and find out if there is enough evidence and substance to levy the tariffs. Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing has issued a statement by Gordon Brinser, the president of SolarWorld AG that this will give more time to the Commerce department to do their analysis.

This means that the sector has overcome the uncertainty in the European  union due to the debt crisis. In 2010 deal worth over $38.2 billion were done and in 2011 deals worth over 53.5 billion were done in solar, wind biofuels etc.

Teh government has passed the decree. This will stop subsidies for wind, solar or energy from waste plants. Invitation to Refrigerant Launch and Establishment of three R&R Centres (Grenada)

(1) The National Ozone Unit in conjunction with the Grenada Refrigeration, Air-conditioning and Ventilating Association (GRAVA) will be establishing three more Recovery and Recycling Centres for technicians. This would bring the number to 20 R&R Centres established across the island to make available equipment for recovery and re-use of refrigerants.
The equipment for these centres will be distributed on Saturday January 28th, 2012 at the Spiceland Mall Car Park from 10:00 a.m. The new R&R Centres would be established in Grenville, St. David's and the sister isle, Carriacou.
(2) The National Ozone Unit will also be co-operating with a local supplier of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment in the launch of their new line of Hydrocarbon refrigerants. SNJ Electrical, is now the OECS distributor for Duracool (Hydrocarbon) Refrigerants. This new line of HC refrigerants is already available for purchase in Grenada and will be launched on the same day - Saturday January 28th, 2012 at the Spiceland Car Park.
As part of the launch activities, SNJ Electriacal in collaboration with GRAVA will be staging a Product Demonstration - retrofitting cars, SUVs and buses from R-134a to Duracool refrigerants. Trina Solar Ltd. is a Chinese firm. It makes crystalline silicon panels. Some firms like SolarWorld has charged the Chinese firms that they have increased sales of solar cells in U.S. during the end of 2011. This helped them to evade possible duties. The Chinese firms strongly deny the charges.

California’s Air Resources Board in Los Angeles is working on a plan where in car makers will be selling electric, hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell cars in the state

California is working on a plan where in car makers will be selling electric, hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell cars in the state. This will enforce the largest automobile manufacturers to sell about 15% of the total sales in the form of cars and vehicles which have negligible tailpipe carbon exhaust in 2025. This will be roughly about 1 million vehicles. Air Resources Board of the State in Los Angeles is working on it.

Ener1 Inc. is a company which makes electric car batteries. The company had received $118 million U.S. Energy Department grant. The firm has filed for bankruptcy protection as it has defaulted on bond payment. The company is facing stiff competition from Asian companies.
