Demystifying Big data, analytics and business intelligence space the various players and offerings in the space
These terms are often used inter changeably by people as there in no clear line demarcating the three domains. In space around analytics is expected to grow about 9-10 % CAGR through 2017. The outsourcing space in analytics grew even faster at about 30%. It growth story around analytics has generate so much heat that it is predicted that data scientist are going to  be the most sought after people. So let us understand who are the players in this space are.
  • Analytics software vendors: These are players are SAP, Oracle, SAS , IBM etc. They would also include new products like HANA from SAP which is an in memory application targeted to process huge amount of data. They have in-house implementation teams to implement their products.
  • Software integrators ( Accenture, IBM, Capgemini , TCS, Wipro, Infosys etc. )They are big players and most of them have big implementation teams to implement the analytics and business intelligence software.
  • KPO/BPO players: KPO or BPO players who provide analytics services as a pure play independent offerings and also as embedded offerings with their BPO services.
  • Building content around the software: Most of the players above have prebuild content around the software have brought out packaged content based products in the market. These contents can be either vertical or horizontal focused.


The value chain of the analytics space:
  • At the bottom is the data management layer
  • Then come the reporting and measurement layer
  • On the top is the statistical modeling and analysis layer


There are also players like IBM who can provide end to end services from hardware, software, implementation to KPO/BPO and also support at all the layers of the value chain.
