Brookshire Grocery Co. proudly joins EPA’s GreenChill partnership

Tyler, Texas, Feb. 8, 2013 — Brookshire Grocery Co. recently became one of a select number of grocery retailers nation-
wide to join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill partnership. By joining GreenChill, BGC pledges to go
beyond regulatory requirements to protect the ozone layer and combat climate change. BGC is committed to sustainabil-
ity, and this partnership will strengthen the company’s ability to protect consumers’ health and the environment.

According to the EPA, a typical supermarket leaks some 1,000 pounds of harmful refrigerant gas into the atmosphere
each year. By joining GreenChill, BGC will work to reduce those emissions by continuing to transition to environmentally
friendlier refrigerants, reduce the amount of refrigerant used and adopt green refrigeration technologies, strategies and
practices. Companies that partner with GreenChill have refrigerant emissions rates that are approximately 50 percent
lower than the national average.

“This partnership will help us reduce harmful refrigerant emissions, protect the ozone layer, cut costs for supermarkets
and consumers, and protect our health and the environment,” said Keilly Witman, GreenChill manager for the EPA.

“We continue to explore ways to positively impact the environment,” said Rick Rayford, BGC President and CEO. “This
pledge demonstrates our ongoing effort to provide our customers with more than just a great place to shop. We are
committed to the safety of our communities and our environment, and believe this partnership will help us exceed stan-
dard business practices and be responsible environmental stewards.”

EPA’s GreenChill partnership works with supermarkets to reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease their impact on the
ozone layer and climate change. For more information on EPA’s GreenChill partnership, including its store certification
program, please visit www.epa.gov/greenchill.
