The Deadliest Forest Fires of All Time – Infographic
With Monday 21st March marking the International Day of Forests, it is a good time to appreciate the beauty of the world’s forestry. The sight of hundreds of pristine trees spread across a large expanse of land is one to behold, while the importance of trees in providing oxygen to the atmosphere cannot be understated. Sadly, forests are not immune to destruction, and when disasters such as forest fires occur, the damage is almost always quite serious.
This infographic from Crowe Sawmills (http://www.crowesawmills.ie/) highlights the 10 deadliest forest fires of all time in terms of human casualties, with one such conflagration resulting in at least 1,200 deaths (and some estimates put the count at twice that number). Although many of these fires were the unavoidable result of inhospitable weather conditions, some owed to human negligence or, in one case, suspected arson. Check out the infographic below to discover more about how an innocent flame is all it takes to turn an entire forest and its surroundings into a widespread, scorching disaster zone.
