Amazon, DHL, FedEX can collaborate with Uber Technologies , Ola or TaxiForSure for last mile delivery
Collaboration between logistic companies like DHL, FedEx, BlueDart etc. or e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and radio cab operators like Uber Technologies , Ola or TaxiForSure can transform the last mile delivery logistic and Supply chain problem
Last mile delivery of goods is the most difficult think for any supply chain organization. It consumes the highest effort to plan and schedule delivery for the last mile and also the cost as a proportion to the total transportation cost is high. The other problem that crops is as we move downstream the number of products that needs to be transported in a single shipment increases and also the units for each product decreases. A total new paradigm shift needs to be brought into tame this problem.
One of the approach could be to use Radio Taxi operators like Uber Technologies, Ola and TaxiForSure in India for the last mile delivery. They are technology oriented companies and they have a good repository of their own internal data. On the other hand courier and logistic companies like DHL, FedEx, BlueDart etc. or e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal etc. can collaborate with each other to solve this puzzle. If the companies can share their planned shipment data with the radio cab operators then the cab operators can pick some shipments and drop to the destinations for a fraction of the cost and with some additional income. It would be a win –win situation for both and completely change ecosystem that prevails right now.
The advent of technology and ease of use of mobile apps can make the transition to this process much simpler.
